Did You Catch These ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Easter Eggs and Comic References?
Now that Captain America: Civil War is in theaters and millions around the world have seen it, we can start digging into the finer details of Marvel Studios first film in Phase Three of their cinematic universe. This was quite the big sequel for the Captain America franchise, so much that it surpassed the entire domestic box office of Captain America: The First Avenger in just three days and nearly doubled the opening weekend of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
But as many have said, this is also like Avengers sequel, and even a better one than Avengers: Age of Ultron. That means it’s chock full of Easter eggs and comic book references, especially for those who read the major Marvel Comics storyline from 10 years ago. A new video runs through a bunch of the Captain America Civil War easter eggs and more, and you can watch it below. Obviously, beware of spoilers.
Here’s the Captain America Civil War easter eggs video from Mr. Sunday Movies:
It’s been a while since I read the Civil War comics, so I didn’t even realize just how much was lifted from the comic book, especially since the story was changed up a bit with the introduction of the Sokovia Accords instead of the Superhero Registration Act. For example, I didn’tremember that Sharon Carter’s eulogy at Peggy Carter’s funeral was lifted from a speech given by Captain America in the comics
The visual cues are more obvious, such as the shot that features Iron Man blasting at Captain America’s shield head-on and Ant-Man being fired on one of Hawkeye’s arrows. Meanwhile, there’s more obscure comic book references such as the fact that 117 countries support the Sokovia Accords while issue #117 of Captain America is when the character of Falcon and his bird Redwing are introduced.
Are there any Captain America Civil War Easter eggs you noticed that aren’t in the video?
